
Honey bee research unit
Honey bee research unit is belonged to plant protection department, faculty of food sciences and agriculture, king Saud University.
Honey bee research unit is situated at two locations:
- The first location, at Al Dereia near the center of King Saud University. It consists of laboratory and offices.
It uses as research center for diagnosis of honeybee diseases and pests, queen rearing, plant pollination, pollen and nectar sources, honey standarization. It has an small apiary (30 colonies) for students practice and education.
The center is prepared with equipments and materials which used in the main studies of honeybee and its products.
- The second location at Dirab region: It is far as 50 km from the university. Also, it consists of a center and apiary (70 colonies). The farm cultivated with different plants species for honeybee.
In this location, the most applied experiments were carried out.
Unit activities:
- Diagnosis of honeybee diseases and pests.
- Determing the honey and adulteryaction and honey sources by laboratory analysis.
- Offering advices to Minestry of Agriculture by two staff member as Apiculture Consultants.
- Accomplishment of practical programs for students and post graduates.
- Design the practical programs and workshops for beekeepers and agriculturalengineers
